The world changes to meet the challenge.Ī quarter of a century later, in a world shaped by what’s now known as “Haden’s syndrome,” rookie FBI agent Chris Shane is paired with veteran agent Leslie Vann. The disease affects young, old, rich, poor, people of every color and creed. But for the unlucky one percent - and nearly five million souls in the United States alone - the disease causes “Lock In”: Victims fully awake and aware, but unable to move or respond to stimulus. Most who get sick experience nothing worse than flu, fever and headaches. Not too long from today, a new, highly contagious virus makes its way across the globe. I figured, being in quarantine and all, what better time was there to read a book about being locked in? So here we are, book four of twenty. Granted, it might take me a while to get to it, but that’s another story. I’ve had Lock In for a few years because everything I’ve read by John Scalzi so far is a delight, so I wasn’t going to turn down something of his. So because of all this hoarding, I made my 2020 resolution to read most of the speculative books that I own. Welcome to another post involving Books Nicole Owns But Hasn’t Read Because She, Like Many, Is Actually A Book Dragon.
